Kane McConnell, a Stor-All Storage employee at our Duluth, Georgia self storage location, volunteers as the Lighting Director at the Red Clay Theatre in historic downtown Duluth, GA. He recently represented Stor-All’s Loc-all Good program, which enables our employees to be active volunteers in their local communities.
The Red Clay Theatre was voted “Best New Music Venue” by Atlanta Magazine and “Best Music Venue in Gwinnett County” by Gwinnett Magazine. At this independent music and songwriter venue, an eclectic group of patrons from around the region routinely gather to relish the raw musical talent on display. Founder Eddie Owen likes to say, “Life is in the song,” and he has a particular talent for spotting emerging artists. After all, he helped superstars John Mayer, the Indigo Girls and Sugarland get their starts by giving them an intimate stage to hone their craft and build a following. His rapport with the grassroots music scene and credibility in the industry is unmatched.
Eddie’s rapport with a host of community volunteers is also astounding. Volunteers fill a variety of positions for the more than 300 concerts each year. They show up faithfully to work as ushers, box office operators, merchandise associates (which also help the artists!) and stage and production assistants. Until recently, Kane volunteered at the theatre up to five nights a week. As other volunteers with production experience have come along, he’s been able to form a team that shares a schedule to make sure no show is left in the dark. “It’s a real treat to help out as the Lighting Director and volunteer my time down there,” says Kane. “For Stor-All, it’s an opportunity to be involved just down the street in something that the community really enjoys and finds important.”
