It’s that time of year again where drugstore shelves are loaded with conversation hart candies, stuffed animals, balloons and the list goes on. Many people consider Valentine’s Day to be a Hallmark holiday because why should there be just one day out of the entire year to showcase your love for that special person in your life? When it comes to Valentine’s Day, it can be a love/hate relationship, depending on your relationship status of course. Here are some gift ideas if you choose to celebrate this heart-filled day.
For the Ladies
Gentlemen, how does your lady like to be pampered, or what is something that she is hesitant to spend money on for herself? While practical gifts are nice and some women do like them, you might not want to put a red bow on a brand new vacuum cleaner and say “Happy Valentine’s Day, Honey!” Consider a romantic night out, or better yet, a night in with her favorite home-cooked meal made by you with a romantic comedy or chick flick to follow. You could always treat her to the spa for a mani/pedi or massage. Keep in mind that if you are on a budget it doesn’t have to be anything big and fancy. You could simply clean the house and do some laundry!
For the Men
Ladies, is your man tech-savvy and always craving the latest gadget? If so, I’m sure you could find something at the Apple store or Sharper Image. If he is a sports fan, you can surprise him with tickets to a game. Is music more his thing? Then concert tickets would be the perfect gift! Men can be a little harder to woo on Valentine’s Day because they don’t get excited over a bouquet of flowers. How about making him a man bouquet? I can thank Pinterest for this idea. To make a man bouquet, you will need a pot, vase or container of some sort and a foam disc. Then, get mini bottles of liquor, cigars, beef jerky, gum, lotto scratch offs…you name it and glue them to long wooden skewers and stick them into the foam disc placed inside of the pot. Voila, you have a man bouquet!
For all the single ladies (and men) out there, there is no need to sulk at home and watch a movie or listen to sad break-up songs with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. Go out and have some fun with your single friends or even by yourself. Treat yourself to something special since you don’t have to spend money on anyone else, if your budget permits that is. Most importantly, remember to love yourself!
